Around the beautiful state of New York, for now, mostly in Hudson Valley and the Catskills. We switch up the venues quite a bit, from snazzy boutique hotels to camping retreats in the summer.

Reducing your phone time for the weekend is strongly encouraged, but we won’t be confiscating your devices or anything. However, phones must be silenced and put away during group reading sessions, and we’re happy to store yours somewhere safe if you don’t want the temptation of it in your pocket all weekend.

We invite a photographer to come and document the fun, so you don't have to have your phone if you don't want it! We share these photos with all attendees so you can keep them for the memz. However, our group reading sessions and discussions are a safe space and will always remain private. Nothing you say during a group reading session will be recorded and published publicly without your written permission. As part of our terms and conditions, we include a clause that waives your right to these photos and videos so we can publish them on our website and social media pages. We read around 70% of the book as a group, sitting together in a circle during our shared reading sessions (this is the real magic of PAGE BREAK!). The remaining pages are read independently during dedicated times when everyone can break off and do their own thing.

We select novels that are manageable in size and length (~200-275 pages) so that we can move through them at a comfortable pace, with plenty of time for discussion and chillin’.

Guided by a moderator, we sit in a circle and take turns reading 2-3 pages at a time, each of us with a copy of the book in our hands. At natural points in the story, or at the end of a chapter, we pause for fruitful discussion as we go. We schedule each shared reading session to be 60 to 90 minutes, which tends to be enough time for us to go around the circle once.

Anyone can “pass” when it comes to their turn during the shared reading sessions, no questions asked. And it’s also okay to change your mind! That said, we encourage everyone to give it a shot and see how it feels – stepping a little bit out of your comfort zone in a safe space can feel really great. And if you reaaaaally hate the idea of reading together and participating in group discussions about books, PAGE BREAK might not be the retreat for you. And that’s cool too!

While you’re responsible for your own transportation costs, we will share the recommended method to travel to PAGE BREAK without a car. The most common method will be to take a train upstate and then Uber/Lyft to the venue. In some cases, if the venue isn’t close to a train station or if Uber/Lyft is not available in the area, we’ll organize a group transportation option and outline the details on the retreat details page.

We work with different chefs, choose different wines, and host at different venues for each retreat, so the cost to attend varies per retreat and room type. No. The price you pay up front for the full retreat is the only charge from us. Everything is included: food, accommodation, wine, a copy of the book, merch, yoga and more. The only thing that isn’t included is transportation to and from the venue.

If you are selected from the registration lottery at random, we will contact you to confirm your booking and collect your payment in full. Once you pay for your spot, it’s nonrefundable. It is, however, transferable – if something comes up, you can find your own replacement, or reach out to us and we can help fill the spot from others who already registered. We’ll do our best to help.
